Job Title: Transport Manager Department
Reporting to: Senior Contract Manager
The Transport Manager will support the Fleet/Operations Managers, and Contract Managers, in day-to-day transport compliance and with fleet-related operational needs. The primary focus of the role is to ensure that:
Transport operations are safe, legally compliant, and conducted in line with statutory guidelines
Operator License regulations are fully obeyed
The Company's policies are fully implemented and respected
Transport and fleet KPIs are achieved
Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities and duties will include, but will not be limited to:
Being named Transport Manager on the Company's Operator License
Managing day-to-day Operators License compliance, including but not limited to: Managing drivers' hours reports to Daily drivers defect reports Collecting and managing compliance documents Monitoring vehicle weights
Provide training to drivers, Supervisors and Managers on all aspects of transport compliance
Carry out and record random driver and vehicle checks
Manage/monitor Supervisor random driver and vehicle checks
Monitor and update the Company's electronic fleet compliance system
Manage the "wall" maintenance planner
Gather transport-related data, managing and analysing results (including financial impact)
Create and manage tachograph analysis and drivers' hours data systems
Supply transport/compliance and financial data to Fleet and Operation Managers
Manage and produce transport related reports
Liaise with vehicle manufacturers
Manage the local relationship with the Company's Contract Hire or Repair & Maintenance providers
Review and challenge (where necessary) Contract Hire or Repair & Maintenance provider's invoices and charges (data and cost analysis required)
Liaise with maintenance, compliance, and training suppliers
Support, train, guide and manage Operation Teams on transport and compliance issues Liaise with and support Health & Safety representatives in all matters relating to Fleet operations and vehicles
Review internal systems to identify actions to improve compliance and finances (damages, maintenance, tyres, and other cost analysis)
In-depth accident investigation, providing guidance and training relating to accidents, and liaising with the HR Department in respect of any potential disciplinary action to be taken against staff members
Liaise with insurance providers and keep up-to-date records relating to insurance claims and investigations
Traveling between sites and operating centres to support wider operations when required
Analyse vehicle damage, tyre damage, vehicle telematics, relevant other data, and identify trends and root causes
Provide corrective driver training
Carry out internal fleet and transport audits, and create and maintain all local transport/compliance reports
Seek to improve fleet and transport efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and associated emissions
Trial new vehicles and provide written reports on productivities and performance.
Essential characteristics: Required skills, qualifications, abilities, and experience includes, but is not limited to:
Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
Highly motivated individual with good work ethic
Strong and demonstrable experience in transport and HGV operation environment
Proven track record of working to defined service KPIs
Previous people and driver management experience
Excellent administration skills and highly organised
Attention to detail Excellent English (verbal and written) communication skills
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) etc.
Positive attitude and ability to work in a multicultural environment
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Full Category B driving license
Ability to travel for work when required
Honest and trustworthy
Able to work in a team or under own supervision.
Desirable skills, qualifications, abilities, and experience includes, but is not limited to:
Waste industry experience
Category C driver license
ADR License
NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent health and safety qualification(s)
Experience using VehoCheck vehicle compliance and fleet management software.
