Job Purpose
To support the continuing development and implementation of Safety Culture working within the EQHS team and with Operational and Site Managers, providing in-field coaching of staff with regards to Health & Safety and Environment controls on our activities. To support the Director of EQHS in establishing, managing and monitoring of standards, processes, training, and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety are adhered to. To work effectively with other members of the EQHS team and operational directors/managers
The Health and Safety team promote a positive health and safety culture and support exemplary practices, promoting a culture of safety first and monitoring compliance.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
To support the operational parts of the business in the completion and implementation of suitable and sufficient systems of work and risk assessments.
To provide in-field coaching and support to staff, ensuring that they are following best practice when performing their duties.
To work collaboratively with managers to continue to improve the health and safety regime in their departments.
To maintain records of coaching to support in house trainers
To conduct ad hoc conversational coaching in the field to encourage observation reporting to improve the quality of these near miss and incident reports within our system.
To support Operational Managers and the Director EQHS in conducting detailed investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses and support (but not be accountable for) the implementation of restorative measures.
To support internal and external inspections and audits across all sites and functions and work with external health and safety auditors, and undertake in-house audits and safety inspections to ensure legal compliance, best practice, and continual improvement.
Assist in the establishment of health and safety requirements at sites and use experience and initiative to provide educated solutions
Assist in preparation for, and support during, audits by external parties when required
Provide advice and guidance to operations and commercial teams
Provide professional, competent, and timely advice to all business functions
Help ensure remains compliant with Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation through a programme of active monitoring
Develop a remote H&S committee to provide mechanism for Operational Support staff to communicate H&S related concerns into the EQHS team
Coordinate and liaise with HR on policies and procedures that incorporate health, safety, and wellbeing.
Stay abreast of new legislation and in conjunction with the Director of EQHS, devise a suitable way to cascade through the business and adapt current practice if necessary
Support the development, review, and implementation health and safety policies, arrangements and health and safety guidance in line with current health and safety legislation ensuring that any changes are communicated to relevant parties and that new and/or updated documents are implemented throughout the business
Other job-related functions reasonably requested by management
Essential Qualifications & Experience
NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
Experience in delivering H&S training
Experienced coach with the ability to build rapport quickly with others
Minimum 3 years working within the waste, recycling or similar sector
Proven experience in the development and implementation of risk assessments and method statements
Essential Skills & Attributes
Ability to use Microsoft packages and SharePoint competently
Effective communicator across department and all levels
Experience of administrative recording systems and admin related duties
Ability to adapt behaviour to different situations
Appears calm under pressure and can think quickly when needed
